Personalised Support for Emotional Wellbeing and Personal Growth

People often find their way to a page like this during times of quiet overwhelm—when life feels too fast, too heavy, or too disconnected. You might be navigating addiction, burnout, trauma, neurodivergence, or simply a moment of transition that’s left you unsure where to turn next. At her Practice in Paddington, Qld, Ruth (and Keeva if preferred) offers a calm and safe space to land for people seeking to better understand themselves or aspects of their life. Therapeutic work can explore who you are beneath the roles you’ve had to play, untangling the impact of long-standing stress, anxiety, or trauma—especially for those who’ve spent a lifetime masking, pushing through, or trying to fit into a world that never really fit them. This process very much as a collaborative one, where together, you navigate your journey with curiosity, collaboration, and evidence-based tools. .Sessions involve exploring, experimenting, and adjusting – moving towards clarity and growth tailored according to your goals. Whether you’re seeking support with self-soothing behaviours that have become or are becoming unhelpful, or are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or seeking guidance in personal growth, we provide evidence-based therapies in a compassionate and confidential environment. Additionally, many of the above experiences are often connected to trauma – in-line with this addressing many of these issues can at times involve understanding and integrating any underlying trauma your body and mind may be carrying.

The Consultancy arm of Quadrant also supports high-performing organisations to address hidden addiction risks, executive burnout, and stimulant use — including in the context of diagnosed and undiagnosed ADHD.

Whether working with individuals or organisations, the integration of biometric monitoring, particularly Heart Rate Variability (HRV) data, Ruth provides objective insights into nervous system health, stress load, and the physiological impacts of stimulant use. This data-driven approach enhances early detection, supports sustainable performance and enhanced organistional outcomes, and informs targeted executive wellbeing interventions. Areas of Support

addiction psychologist brisbane

Dependency / Addiction Concerns

Ruth utilises a holistic and trauma informed approach in working with individuals navigating drug and/or alcohol misuse and / or behavioural dependencies — including self-soothing patterns such as scrolling, emotional eating, overworking, gambling, sex, porn, and compulsive spending.  These behaviours can cause feelings of shame, guilt, or remorse and can be a lonely place to live.

Therapy focuses on helping clients understand the function of these behaviours, breaking any shame spirals, building sustainable strategies for change and reconnecting people with their social network and purpose.

Peri-Menopause / Menopause

Ruth has a special interest in the unique aspects of midlife changes and menopause and how these manifest in women’s emotional health and wellbeing, e.g. perimenopausal depression and anxiety, stress and burnout, sleep and insomnia, increased alcohol use and loss of identity. Seeking therapy in midlife can help with mapping out this challenging phase.

Therapy can help women to reach a sense of self-understanding, to learn new behaviours and thought patterns that support a way of being that allows for adaptation to the changes that arrive with midlife and beyond.

ADHD / Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity brings with it a unique landscape of strengths, sensitivities, and challenges, that we explore with curiosity—not assumptions. The aim is to understand your experience in its full complexity. Through this lens, we support you to develop practical tools, strengthen self-awareness, and navigate life with more clarity and confidence.

We also recognise the deeper emotional impact that can come from years of feeling different—often unseen, misread, masked or misunderstood. If it’s important to you, we’ll explore how your neurodivergence may have shaped your sense of identity, self-worth, and relationships, and offer space for healing and integration.

Trauma / Complex Trauma / Attachment

Trauma often lies beneath the surface of many other challenges—addiction, depression, anxiety, burnout, or difficulties in relationships. It can quietly shape the way we see ourselves and how safe we feel in the world. Sometimes the trauma is obvious, and sometimes it stems from early attachment wounds or long-standing patterns that no longer serve.

I work with trauma through an attachment-based lens, using Schema Therapy to explore long-standing patterns, and EMDR to process stuck memories when appropriate.

This work is about more than just revisiting the past—it’s about creating safety, making sense of your story, and reconnecting with who you are beneath the survival strategies.

Anxiety / Stress Control / Burnout

Stress and anxiety are inevitable, but when they interfere with how you think, sleep, connect, or cope, they can drain your energy and clarity. For perfectionists, burnout often arrives quietly after long periods of drive, pressure, and productivity—especially when recovery has been sidelined.

We navigate these challenges using a tailored blend of Schema Therapy, ACT and body–mind strategies. Whether feeling stuck in overdrive or running on empty, therapy focuses on recalibrating your system—restoring perspective, energy, and alignment.

If you use wearables or are curious about biometrics, we incorporate Heart Rate Variability (HRV) monitoring to track how your nervous system responds to stress and recovery—providing real-time insights to guide more sustainable, attuned change.

identity counselling psychology therapy brisbane

Identity / Purpose / Growth

Sometimes the discomfort we feel isn’t about a crisis—it’s about a quiet knowing that something no longer fits (or perhaps never did), leaving you feeling depressed or anxious. You may be asking deeper questions about who you are, what you want, or what’s next. These are not signs of failure or confusion, but are perhaps driven by an intuitive sense that there is something more.

Identity is explored not as something fixed, but as something unfolding. Whether you’re navigating a life transition, shifting values, or a loss of direction, therapy can offer space to reflect, realign, and move forward with clarity. Together, we’ll work to reconnect with your core self—beyond roles, expectations, or old narratives—and begin shaping a life that feels more meaningful, spacious, and mindfully driven.

Grounded in Data, Guided by Insight

Harnessing Evidence to Personalise Psychological Care

At the core of my practice is a commitment to measurable, meaningful change. I integrate routine outcome measures, feedback-informed therapy, and biometric data—such as Heart Rate Variability (HRV)—to ensure each client’s progress is not only felt but clearly tracked. This data-driven approach enables us to understand how your mind and body respond to treatment in real-time, adapt strategies accordingly, and co-create a therapeutic journey that is both responsive and sustainable. Whether we’re targeting stress and exhaustion, depression or anxiety, dependency, or performance blocks, this framework helps translate insight into impact.

Our Therapy Dog in Training

Meet Keeva: Our Therapy Dog

We’re proud to offer Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) as part of our client support, with Keeva—our much-loved therapy dog—often joining sessions. Keeva is a six-year-old Husky–Samoyed cross (a Samusky), currently undergoing her formal AAT training and accreditation with Therapy Dogs Australia.

Her name comes from the Irish Gaelic Caoimhe, meaning “gentle, beautiful, precious”—a perfect fit for her nature. Known for her thick, fluffy coat, gentle temperament, and charming howl-greetings, Keeva brings warmth and calm to the therapeutic space. She helps demonstrate how the presence of a dog can reduce stress and support emotional regulation. The days Keeva is onsite are variable therefore it is always worth checking with the clinic if you have a strong preference for her to be there (or not be there).
